On Saturday 6th December 2014 the newly established City of Whitehorse Pipe Band made their first outing at the Daylesford Highland Gathering.
The band was formed 6 months prior by Former Clan Gregor Pipe Band Pipe-Major George Shepherd. Leading drummer is former Strathclyde Police Pipe Band/Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia member and owner of Go Drumming, Olav Goud.
The bands main aim was to play two solid sets and see how most of the young/new members would perform. With weather playing a bit of havoc, the band managed to put down two solid performances, which resulted in winning the overall Grade 2 title.

The City of Whitehorse Drum corps is currently being sponsored by Go Drumming and Proline sticks. With a corps mainly consisting of players under the age of 25 years Olav is trying to establish a solid young corps that will grow in experience and compete at the highest level. With the first competition under their belt, the band took a festive break.
The snare drummers have already been back at it, with a snare practice in Adelaide. This practice saw two new drummers join the corps who have effortlessly manage to slot in.
Boghall and Bathgate rounded off an excellent 40th anniversary season by winning the Grade 1 Cowal Pipe Band Championships from a strong field of thirteen bands. Playing second last, the band drew their Number 2 medley starting with the classic Boghall opener, The Big Road Brusher. All sections of the band had a great run and were delighted to be announced as 2012 Cowal Champions, with the drum corps also winning, thereby taking their 4th major championship of an incredibly successful season.
In addition, with the drummers continuing their excellent set of results, they were also crowned 2012 Champion of Champions, with the band finishing in a strong second place overall behind Field Marshal Montgomery – well done to them!
That is it for the 2012 band season in Scotland. Olav will now focus on the Southern Hemisphere season, working with the South Australia Youth Pipe Band on the new competition season which kicks off on 20th October 2012 in Tanunda. Also competing will be the City of Adelaide Pipe Band. The full drum corps should be over for this competition to built on the strong showing at the Australian National Championships. You might even see some new faces……

Go Drumming competed with the Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band yesterday at the World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green.
With two solid runs the band managed to secure 4th place in Grade 1 against a strong field. The drum corps put in two great runs which resulted in winning both the Medley and MSR competition and the overall World Drum Corps Championship Sash and trophy. Congratulations to all bands who competed yesterday and all the price winners. A special congratulations goes out to Field Marshall Montgomery for winning another World Championship in Grade 1.
Today it’s back to reality as we are currently at Schiphol Airport, Holland waiting for our flight to Dubai and then onwards to Australia. There it will be back to the weekly practices and the start of the Southern Hemisphere Pipe Band Season.
Well, “that” famous day in the yearly pipe band calendar has nearly arrived again. After a week of catching up with friends at the Todd Barr at Strathclyde University, plenty of practices and the Pre-World’s concert last Wednesday it’s nearly time to do the “talking” on the park.
Plenty of bands have had open practices at the Todd Bar and this is always a good opportunity to listen to the other bands and catch up with friends that you haven’t seen for a week.
The World Pipe Band Championships will be streamed live by the BBC as it has been done the last couple of years. You can follow the Grade 1 qualifier and the final by clicking here.
Go Drumming will be performing with the Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band.
This will leave us to wish all the competitors good luck tomorrow and we will leave you with a recording taken at the Pre-World’s concert last Wednesday night at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

After some internal changes within Go Drumming it was decided last month that the website would require an upgrade/change. Go Drumming was extremely pleased to be able to hand this important job to Gus Sicard, currently a member of the Inveraray Pipe Band.
A company website these days is probably one of the most important parts of the business. Gus has proven over the last couple of years that he is an excellent website designer and was keen to get on board with Go Drumming. He is mostly known for his excellent video’s of solo drumming http://www.gusweb.org/ and is also the designer/editor of the rapidly growing Drumming on Demand website http://www.drummingondemand.com/
Go Drumming would like to thank Gus for the hard work he has put in which resulted in this excellent website.
